The Curley's Lineup
Cheesesteaks on a wedge, named for the teams Stamford lives and dies by. Pick your side — there's a Philly for every fan.
Our Story
Curley's opened in 1941, named for Herluf "Curley" Svenningsen and his head of golden hair. In the 1970s it passed to Maria Aposporos, a Greek immigrant who ran it alongside her sister Eleni Begetis — and gave the menu its Greek-American soul.
When Stamford's redevelopment commission moved to seize the corner by eminent domain and put up apartments, the sisters refused to sell. Roughly 7,000 neighbors signed a petition to save it. The fight went all the way to the Connecticut Supreme Court — and Curley's won.
Eight-plus decades on, it's still a real diner: politicians and night-shift workers at the same counter, big plates, fair prices, and a griddle that doesn't quit.

It's a cheesesteak served on a wedge roll with fries — and ours are named for the home teams: the Giants, Jets, Yankees, Knicks, Nets and Rangers, plus a whole Philly Corner.
We do — souvlaki, gyros, Greek salad, grape leaves and spinach pie sit right next to the classic diner fare, thanks to our Greek family roots.
